Forma un cuscinetto di vegetazione con le foglie grigio-biancastre. Esistono numerose variet\u00e0 in commercio: A. D. Aurea: fiori porpora, foglie con margini dorati; A. D. Variegata: fiori porpora, foglie con margine bianco. I fiori sono a forma di croce, del diametro di 1-2 cm, con petali di colore rosa-lilla o porpora, riuniti in infiorescenze (racemi) terminali.
